ABOUT SHATTERED DREAMS, NEW HOPE
Shattered Dreams, New Hope: First Aid for Parents Whose Son or Daughter Has Embraced an LGBTQ+ Identity is written for Christian parents whose child identifies as LGBTQ+ and does not desire to live in accordance with God’s Word.
This parents’ curriculum is available as a FREE digital download in our online store.
Shattered Dreams, New Hope is designed for individual study and use in support group settings. Church leaders and laypeople will also be able to use it for walking alongside a hurting parent or facilitating a support group for parents in their local church.
Throughout each chapter, questions are included to guide personal reflection and/or group discussion.
Shattered Dreams, New Hope is organized in three parts: “Discovering Your Child”, “Caring for Your Heart”, and “Moving Toward Your Child”.
In “Discovering Your Child”, you’ll explore Harvest USA’s Tree Model, and you’ll learn about the five elements of your child’s life that may explain why and how they’ve made some of their decisions.
In “Caring for Your Heart”, you’ll focus primarily on your experience since first learning about your child’s issue. This section is very important because parents often neglect to get the help they need. When a child comes “out of the closet,” many parents go “into the closet” to keep others from seeing their pain.
Finally, in “Moving Toward Your Child”, you’ll learn practical wisdom for how to pursue your child, love them compassionately and intelligently, and enter their world while also inviting them into yours.
In these three videos, Chris Torchia, the Parents and Family Ministry Coordinator at Harvest USA, shares more about Shattered Dreams, New Hope and how to use it.
Video One orients you to the curriculum, identifies the intended audience, and provides suggestions on how to use it.
Video Two outlines the curriculum and summarizes the three parts: “Discovering Your Child”, “Caring for Your Heart”, and “Moving Toward Your Child”.
Video Three provides instruction on how to use the curriculum if you’re the helper who is walking alongside a hurting parent and/or facilitating a support group for parents.
